Performance results of the Association of Ukrainian Banks for May 2023

The Association of Ukrainian Banks is actively working to return to pre-war practices and introduce new initiatives for the stability of the banking sector. In particular, in May 2023, the Association of Ukrainian Banks addressed the following issues on the development and protection of the financial sector's interests.

Issues of the banking sector

✓ The Association received an interim response from the NBU to a request to return to the pre-war practice of banks providing guarantees to related parties.
✓ The Association organized and conducted a structured expert discussion of issues related to changes in the primary real estate market. The event was attended by Ukrfinzhytlo. Based on the results of the discussion, the Association of Ukrainian Banks prepared an appeal on behalf of the financial and construction community to the rule-making authority (CMU).
✓ Following the appeal to the National Bank of Ukraine, questions from the banking community were collected and consolidated for further clarification on the subject of ensuring compliance with the requirements of sanctions legislation.
✓ The Association received a response from the NBU to the EBA's initiative to establish a special working group to develop joint proposals to minimize risks to the banking business associated with the use of processing software developed by companies under sanctions.
✓ Received a response from the NBU to a request for clarification on the opportunity for financial market participants
✓ Consolidated the position of the microfinance market on the restrictions proposed by the NBU on microcredit, in particular, limiting the maximum daily interest rate to 0.8%.
✓ At the request of the National Bank of Ukraine, the Association collected issues related to the compliance of non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) with the requirements of the financial monitoring and currency legislation for further discussion during meetings of NBFIs with the National Bank.

  Participation in thematic events

✓ The Association organized and held the event “Banking Resilience” in honor of the Bank Employee Day.
The event was attended by heads of Ukrainian banks, representatives of banking associations from Poland, Canada and Ireland. Among the invited speakers were Vasyl Furman, Member of the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine, Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, and Gennadiy Chyzhykov, President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Denelle Dixon, CEO of Stellar Development Foundation, was a separate guest speaker.
✓ Yaroslava Avramenko was elected Vice President of the Association. The newly appointed Vice President will be responsible for coordinating the work of the EBA's expert and analytical unit.
