Implementation of QR payments in Ukraine: AUB presented a new technological payment product and discussed the benefits and risks of instant payments.
A meeting of the Payment Systems Committee of the Association of Ukrainian Banks was held on April 17. The main topic of discussion was the activation of the implementation of QR-code payments in Ukraine and the involvement of banks in this process. The participants of the meeting considered the issue of developing the necessary legislation, the regulation of which will be an important step in ensuring the stable functioning of new payment technologies.
During the meeting, bank representatives expressed support for the introduction of QR code payment systems, emphasizing their importance for the development of the payment infrastructure and reducing transaction fees. Banking institutions have expressed interest in using QR codes to reduce costs and increase transaction volumes. In general, representatives of the banking community support the introduction of the instant payment system in Ukraine. The meeting participants noted that QR codes will make payments more convenient for customers and stimulate the development of e-commerce.
At the same time, during the meeting, experts voiced problems on the way to implementing QR-code payments in Ukraine , which include several key aspects.
- First, the lack of a single standard for QR-payments leads to the incompatibility of the systems of different banks, which makes it difficult for customers to use them.
- The second problem is the underdeveloped infrastructure needed to support QR payments, such as self-service terminals and POS terminals.
- The third problem is security, since QR payments require a high level of protection against fraud and data theft.
- The fourth problem is the need to introduce legislative regulation that would establish clear rules for making QR payments.
Finally, the low awareness of citizens about QR-payments and their benefits is a serious obstacle to their widespread use. Additional issues voiced by committee members are high implementation costs for banks, the complexity of integration with existing systems, and the need for staff training.
Also within meeting of the Committee, a new payment method was presented using the QR standard "My Bank", the developer of which is the company iPay.ua. According to the developers, this initiative provides an alternative to international payment systems, contributing to the development of the domestic financial market and reducing dependence on external payment service providers.
In particular, it was noted that the new payment method "My Bank" offers a number of advantages
For banks: growth of operations, cost optimization, simplification of financial monitoring.
For clients: fast and convenient payments, security, saving time and money, supporting charity.
For the state: stimulating the cashless economy, increasing tax revenues, reducing the shadow economy, savings on currency withdrawal, charity support.
The meeting of the AUB Committee demonstrated the significant interest of the banking sector in the use of QR codes for payments in Ukraine. Summarizing the meeting, the participants noted that the implementation of these technologies can make payments more accessible, convenient and transparent. It is expected that QR-payments will become an integral part of the Ukrainian payment infrastructure, stimulating the development of cashless payments and making the financial system more stable and convenient for users.
However, solving issues related to technical support, marketing strategy and cooperation between all market participants remains on the agenda for further development of this sphere in Ukraine. Also, the participants of the meeting of the AUB Committee on Payment Systems noted that in order to realize the potential of new payment solutions, it is necessary to intensify cooperation with the NBU and other institutionseikholders, which will allow to improve the regulatory legislation in this area and ensure the successful implementation of QR-code payment technology.
