Banks financed energy projects worth UAH 33.5 billion and power generation capacity of 1.8 GW

Under a memorandum of understanding to finance the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged by massive attacks by the aggressor, banks provided businesses with financing for energy generation projects with a total capacity of 1.294 GW.

According to a survey of banks, between June 1, 2024, and December 1, 2025, financial institutions also supported energy storage and heat generation projects with a total capacity of 540 MW.
According to the press service of the National Bank, during this period, banks financed initiatives to restore energy and strengthen energy independence in 21 regions of Ukraine in the amount of UAH 33.5 billion. Of these:

  • over 2,500 business loans worth UAH 31.3 billion;

  • over 13,000 loans to individuals worth UAH 2.2 billion.

As of December 1, the gross portfolio of energy loans amounted to UAH 21.8 billion for legal entities and UAH 1.7 billion for individuals.
Energy is one of the priority areas according to the Lending Development Strategy developed by the National Bank together with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance. As part of the Strategy, the NBU has already implemented a number of instruments to stimulate lending to priority sectors.

In particular, to stimulate financing for energy projects, the National Bank has updated its approaches to credit risk assessment and increased the coefficients for taking into account the cost of energy equipment when accepting it as collateral for relevant loans.
