“Made in Ukraine”: how government grants support small businesses during the war

The state program “Made in Ukraine” proves that supporting entrepreneurship in wartime is possible even for the smallest businesses. This was announced by Dmytro Kysilevsky, deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on economic development.

According to him, the grant program “Own Business” gives Ukrainians the opportunity to receive up to 250,000 hryvnia to start or develop a business, provided that two jobs are created. In frontline regions, particularly throughout the Dnipropetrovsk region, the amount can reach 500,000 hryvnia, and for veterans throughout the country, up to 1 million hryvnia. Applications can be submitted through the “Dія” portal by adding a business plan and defending it at an authorized bank. More than 28,000 grants have already been issued.

Kysilevsky cited several examples of successful businesses in Dnipro that have benefited from state support:

The company Sh-Ardyu received 500,000 hryvnia for the production of sugar-free syrups for coffee and cocktails. The entrepreneur has already launched test production and plans to enter national supermarket chains. In the future, he plans to expand the range to include sauces.
Igor Danilenko's Ptakh studio-workshop purchased a modern welding machine thanks to a grant of 250,000 hryvnias. The workshop manufactures original metal products, from gates and canopies to decorative sculptures, which are in demand among local residents.
Over the course of three years, Victoria Krutko's sewing business has grown into a well-coordinated team that the owner calls her second family. A state grant allowed her to purchase new sewing machines, thanks to which the enterprise is expanding production and plans to create its own trademark.
These examples, Kysilevsky emphasizes, demonstrate that even in wartime, a strong idea is the most important thing for business development. The state is ready to provide start-up capital or funds for expansion.

In addition to “Own Business,” there are more than a dozen support programs for small and medium-sized enterprises with up to 250 employees under the “Made in Ukraine” policy.

Entrepreneurs interested in grant assistance can contact micro and small business support centers based at the Employment Service. There, they will provide advice, help draw up a business plan, and tell you about other state support instruments.
