Ukrainians Actively Transferred Funds in 2024: Over 3.6 Billion Transactions
Throughout 2024, businesses and households actively carried out credit and debit transfers, according to the National Bank of Ukraine. In total, over 3.6 billion payment transactions were conducted within Ukraine last year, initiated using credit transfers and direct debits.
Credit Transfers Dominate
In Ukraine, 62 banks and two non-bank financial institutions provided payment services to businesses and households in 2024, using credit transfer and direct debit.
In 2024, they processed 1.7 million payment transactions initiated with direct debit, totaling UAH 31.20 billion.
Payment transactions initiated with credit transfers were more widespread. Last year, these transactions amounted to:
Within Ukraine: 3.6 billion transactions totaling more than UAH 43,115.15 billion.
To Ukraine: 5.7 million transactions totaling USD 69.27 billion equivalent.
From Ukraine: 1.4 million transactions totaling USD 77.06 billion equivalent.
Domestic Operations
In 2024, the largest number of payment transactions within Ukraine initiated with credit transfers was carried out from personal accounts: 3,101.5 million, or 85.7% of the total number of such transactions.
However, in terms of value, the most payment transactions were conducted from business accounts: UAH 39,260.91 billion, or 91.1% of the total value.
Cross-border Operations
For individuals, 58.6% of the total number of payment transactions using credit transfers were received from abroad into Ukraine (i.e., 3.3 million transactions). In terms of value, however, businesses led the way, with 94.1% of the total value of credit transfer transactions received by business entities (under foreign trade contracts). This amounted to USD 65.21 billion equivalent. The largest inflows to Ukraine came from the EU countries (44.97%), Switzerland (21.71%), and the United States (11.88%).
The largest volume of credit transfer transactions from Ukraine was initiated by businesses (under foreign trade contracts): 1.11 million transactions totaling USD 76.87 billion equivalent. This accounted for 81.7% of the total number and 99.8% of the total value of such transactions, respectively. Geographically, the largest amount of funds went to EU countries (61.68%), Switzerland (9.97%), and China (5.03%).
