By the end of 2024, ⅔ of commercial banks may join the state program “National Cashback”
By the end of 2024, ⅔ of commercial banks, at least 50% of consumer goods producers, ⅔ of large retailers (supermarket chains, large specialty stores, etc.), and at least ⅓ of bank card users may join the National Cashback program.
This opinion was expressed by Anna Dovgalska, Deputy Chairman of the Board of GLOBUS BANK.
She reminded that on September 2, 2024, the National Cashback program announced by the President of Ukraine will be launched, according to which citizens will receive compensation for 10% of the cost of Ukrainian goods purchased by them.
According to her, the program's objectives are to stimulate the development of domestic producers of a wide range of goods, encourage citizens to buy Ukrainian goods with favorable prices, and develop cashless payments, as cashback will be credited to purchases made by bank card.
“This program can, on the one hand, encourage domestic producers to popularize their own goods by actually advertising them on the state platform Diia (buying Ukrainian will become fashionable), and on the other hand, increase the interest of citizens in purchasing goods from domestic producers (buying Ukrainian will become profitable),” the expert emphasized.
Anna Dovgalska explained how the National Cashback program will work:
The buyer must open a special card to receive a refund for the purchase of goods from a bank that is a participant in the program and give permission to transfer transaction data from selected cards when buying goods in stores that have joined the program.
The buyer should update the Diia mobile application, select the National Cashback service and specify this special card for further cashback crediting.
If these conditions are met, when making a card payment, the buyer will receive a refund of a certain amount of the cost of the goods with its crediting to a special card. The cashback can be spent on purchasing medical supplies, paying for utilities, mobile services, transportation, certain entertainment (movies, sports, restaurants), and the Armed Forces, etc.
She said that a significant number of banks provide cashback services and this is no longer a novelty.
“Currently, bank cashback is very popular among customers. This service allows customers to choose categories of goods and services on a monthly basis and receive a refund of 1% to 5%. In other words, cashback is no longer something extraordinary, but an additional effective mechanism for loyalty and attracting new customers,” the expert emphasized.
She said that potential buyers who are already interested in getting a refund for their purchases should choose a bank participating in the National Cashback program and open a special card with it.
“The bank's task is to make it as easy as possible for customers to participate in this government program. It means a “non-burdensome” process of opening a special card, maximum transparency and informing customers about this program,” summarized Anna Dovgalska.
