Results of the Association of Ukrainian Banks for August 2024

On a monthly basis, we inform the management of the Banks of Ukraine about the activities of the Association of Ukrainian Banks (hereinafter - the Association or the AUB). Therefore, we would like to inform you about certain measures/steps taken by the Association during August 2024 to address current issues of development and protection of the financial sector's interests.

Issues of the banking sector

  • The Association sent a letter to the National Bank of Ukraine with a proposal to allow banks not to form mandatory reserves for operations of raising funds from the Settlement Center, provided that such funds were raised by the central counterparty from another resident bank.
  • The Association sent a letter to the State Tax Service of Ukraine regarding the formation of a working group to discuss issues related to the implementation of SAF-T UA.
  • The Association sent a letter to the New York Global Group regarding the opening of correspondent accounts and establishing cooperation with Ukrainian banks.
  • The Association sent a letter to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit regarding support and cooperation in the integration of Ukraine's financial sector into the EU.

Issues of non-bank financial institutions

  • The Association sent a letter to the National Bank of Ukraine to provide clarification on the calculation of the daily interest rate on consumer loans.
  • The Association has processed the response from the National Bank of Ukraine to provide clarification on the calculation of the daily interest rate on a consumer loan. The Association shared the response with the members of the AUB Committee on Non-Bank Lending.
  • We sent letters to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, SE DIIA and the National Bank of Ukraine with a proposal to participate in a working meeting on connecting financial companies to the remote verification service of SE DIIA.
  • The Association has processed the response from the National Bank of Ukraine to the letter of the DIA regarding the clarification of the practical application of the requirements of the current legislation on factoring.
  • We have processed the response from the National Bank of Ukraine to the letter of the Association to provide clarification on the list of primary documents to confirm compliance with the leverage ratio. DBA shared the response with the members of the Association's Compliance and Financial Monitoring Committee (NBFM).

Participation in thematic events

  • On August 1, the Chairman of the AUB Council and First Vice President of the AUB held a working meeting with the Chairman of the AUB Supreme Board Viktor Yushchenko. An important topic of discussion was the creation of a permanent working platform for the economic revival of Ukraine.
  • On August 06, the Association and the Parkovy Exhibition and Convention Center signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation. The signatories agreed to work together in holding thematic events.
  • On August 09, a review of the National Bank of Ukraine's innovations for July 2024 was prepared by the AUB Analytical Group under the leadership of Dilyara Mustafayeva.
  • On August 09, a meeting of the AUB Committee on NPL Resolution was held on the topic: “Discussion of the Draft Law #11138 and support of the Draft Law #11139”.
  • On August 15, a working meeting was held between representatives of the Association, the National Bank of Ukraine and banking industry experts in financial technology and retail business. The meeting focused on improving the payment process and creating a unified customer experience.
  • On August 15, a meeting of the AUB Compliance and Financial Monitoring Committee (CFMC) was held on the topic: “Consideration and discussion of problematic issues arising in the course of the work of non-bank financial institutions”.
  • On August 20, the PRA Vice President held a working meeting with representatives of the Estonian Banking Association and the Swedish financial group SEB. The main purpose of the visit was to expand international relations and exchange of experience, in particular in combating financial fraud.

Media coverage of the CBA activities

  • The Association issued a statement on the inadmissibility of management and ownership of financial institutions in Ukraine by citizens of the aggressor country - Russia.
  • The Rada TV channel broadcasted a program about obtaining interest-free loans for solar panels, and AUB member banks started energy lending.
  • An extended interview of the AUB  President was conducted for the TV channel Novosti.LIVE. Other recordings of the broadcasts held during August are also available on the AUB YouTube page.
    In addition, AUB continued to participate as a general partner of the National Bank of Ukraine in the All-Ukrainian information campaign to protect the rights of consumers of insurance services “Know Your Rights: Insurance”. Within the framework of the partnership, AUB places social advertising in the TV program “Financial Literacy”, which is a joint project of AUB and Espresso TV channel, as well as on the official AUB FB page. In addition, UBA continues to implement the “Financial Literacy Education Initiative”.

The mission of the Association of Ukrainian Banks is to support the development of the national banking system. The AUB cooperates with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on improving the legislation governing banking activities, and interacts with the National Bank of Ukraine on regulatory support for the functioning of banks and non-bank financial institutions. The CBA takes care of the professional development of bank employees, expands international relations with associations and banking institutions of other countries.
