TAScombank became the winner of the rating of the Association of Ukrainian Banks “Banking Strength. First-Half 2023” in the nomination ‘Banking support for business’
He also said that due to the simplicity and acceptability of leasing for customers, the number of such transactions is steadily growing. According to the banker, classic leasing allows you to preserve working capital and acquire the assets necessary to develop and maintain your business, or even start a new one.
“The leaseback service is about meeting the client's need to replenish working capital even if they already have enough transport and equipment for their work. Since the beginning of the war, customers' needs have increased, so products such as guarantees or factoring have been used. However, even these seemingly classic products have changed significantly since the outbreak of the war. For example, there is a company that produces equipment for large supermarkets. It sells its equipment to retail chains, but the buyer does not pay immediately, but stretches the payment over three years. But the supplier needs the money today. This is where we come in and buy out the obligations that last for three years. Formally, this is factoring, but not the factoring we are used to. In this situation, we can also offer classic leasing, in which case the bank buys out the equipment and leases it to the retail chain. We are constantly reminding ourselves that during the war we need to focus on customer needs,” said the bank's CEO.
Volodymyr Dubey also told about the most promising industries for leasing development.
“There are successful companies in all industries that we want to see as our borrowers. Leasing is no exception. Our clients include road companies, agricultural producers, processors, logistics and transportation companies. We resumed financing in May 2022, as we understand that supporting Ukrainian business is crucial for the country and economic development. The financial leasing service is easier and faster to obtain than a classic loan,” the banker said.
He also drew attention to the fact that the leasing portfolio is better to service than the loan portfolio. According to the banker, today, given the imperfections of the judicial system and underdeveloped legislation to protect the rights of creditors, leasing is becoming a more reliable option than lending.
“In addition, the amount of lease financing is usually less than the average loan amount in the corporate sector, so customers have been trying to repay small amounts even in difficult times. The average leasing request check is about UAH 2 million. And we, as a lender, reacted quickly enough to unforeseen situations that arose with our clients: we offered debt restructuring options or loan repayment holidays, changed payment schedules. Even in the most difficult situations, it is important for us to maintain human relations with our clients. We had several cases of damage to equipment during the occupation: in each situation, we found a solution that would suit both parties. There were no situations when we had to search for debtors and take property by force,” said Volodymyr Dubey.
